Picture Fabric
by Mary Wilkins

Here are some super easy suggestions for what to do with that beautiful fabric you just brought home.
This is a fabric that presents a picture or perhaps a whole story. Sometimes you look at it and think - this is great fabric, but what can I do with it, how can I use it. Well, the first, most obvious answer is appliques. You can fussy cut around the figures and use the separate motifs in a quilt block or perhaps on a pocket.

Another idea is to pick a scene from the chosen fabric and simply quilt around the figures, flowers, animals, whatever you choose. When you do this, you have your quilt all finished and you can concentrate on the quilting designs you would like to incorporate into the picture. Then, take a couple of the colours in your picture fabric and make these your border colours. There is an example of this in our photo gallery. Go see Mary, Mary Quite Contrary which is a good example.
